Pairs Cricket

21st June 2022
On Tuesday after school a team of 8 from Ash Class played in a pairs cricket tournament between 4 schools. For most, this was their first time playing a game of cricket so we were there for the experience, rather than the results. Although, after we beat Uffculme in the first game by 214 runs to 207 - thanks mainly to a superb score of 20 runs from Harry and Hugo AND an amazing bowling partnership from James and Connor (with James taking an amazing catch behind the wicket - we started to believe!
In the second game against an experienced Kentisbeare team - complete with cricket whites - the team improved greatly. The final score being 228 - 223 - with Tristan and Felix taking wickets and scoring the highest with the bat.
The final game was really close, and we thought we had won it, against Culmstock. Again, Tristan and Felix performed brilliantly with the bat by scoring 19 runs. Hugo made the wicket rain during his 6-ball-over - almost completing a hat-trick! The umpire had Culmstock as the winners by only 3 runs (although MR Snow had a completely different score!)
The final result did not matter any way as the top two teams progress onto the next round (TBC) so, hopefully with a bit more practise, the children will improve even more!
Well done to everyone involved and a special thank you to Uffculme for organising and Mrs Britton for volunteering to come along - without her, we would not have been able to travel.
