The new year brought some old and new challenges to Sampford Peverell children this week as it saw the continuation of both the netball and basketball groups as well as an indoor sportshall athletics event.

During the sportshall athletics a team of 6 girls and 6 boys had to complete 8 events on a circuit which included a variety of running, throwing and jumping challenges. The children performed brilliantly as part of a team as every member's score counted; they were full of encouragement and support for each other.

Out of 8 teams Sampford returned in 3rd position - just 3 points behind second place and qualification for the East Devon finals. A great display.

In basketball the team continued to set a blistering pace and racked up 6 wins, a draw and a loss. Unfortunately, due to the residential to Grenville, the team ended up playing 7 games less that the other teams and, unlike the netball team, were not given an opportunity to catch up. This meant that they frustrating finished 3 points (1 win) behind 3rd place and again qualification for the East Devon finals - if they had been able to play one additional catch-up game then they would have qualified.

The Netball team continued to be a fantastic team unit and finished in the final week with all wins; this meant that they have now qualified for the East Devon finals to be held later in the year.
