Local Governing Body

  • Miss Sarah Price

  • Mrs Gail Foreshew

Foundation Governor - Chair of Governors

Gail is a clinical pharmacist working at Coleridge Medical Centre in Ottery St Mary. She also provides advice to Devon Doctors the GP out-of-hours service.

Gail qualified as a pharmacist in 1998 and worked for many years in a large hospital in the midlands. Since moving to Devon 5 years ago, Gail had a change of role and moved into her current work. Her work involving using medicines safely involves working with multiple organisations, both large and small. She is involved in safeguarding investigations where the remit is the medicines use.

Gail has spent time in Sierra Leone working for the Christian charity Mission Direct. This gave an opportunity for her to use her pharmacy skills but also much wider skills as she worked alongside local people transforming lives including the provision of accommodation, supporting schools and hospitals.

Gail is a member of St John’s church in Sampford Peverell and on the leadership team for Messy Church. She is keen to involve children in church in our community.

She grew up in North Devon, but having moved away to Nottingham university she spent the next 17 years in Nottingham. She returned to Devon in 2010.

    Why are you a governor?

"I joined the LGB in the summer of 2014 as I wanted to make a difference to the community in which I lived and support the school to be the best it can be for all of the children. I felt my skills added to those of the governors already involved giving us governors with a wide variety of backgrounds."

    Why are you a governor?

"I believe its paramount that our children are educated for the future which means that technology must be promoted alongside the bedrock skills of reading, writing and mathematics. As a parent governor I want to help create a technology enabled learning environment that will benefit the school and more importantly the children. A modern learning environment supported through the use of technology will not only aid our children's learning but also increase communication between school and parent, ensuring that we as parents can become more involved in the learning journey."

  • Mrs Sophie Cuthbertson

    Parent Governor

I grew up in Somerset and attended a village school very similar in size and nature to Sampford Peverell C of E Primary School. We relocated to Mid Devon from Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire about 5 years ago to be closer to family.

Prior to moving to Devon I worked at a large National Law firm in Bristol and qualified as a lawyer in 2009. I was responsible for a large department of both Lawyers and administrative staff. My role was not only to ensure that we met the needs of the client but to also provide training, support and guidance to the team to ensure they were able to meet the requirements of the client. I would also provide training to several large insurers as required.

During my college years I was involved in a project run by Avon & Somerset Police which gave children from deprived inner-city areas the opportunity to take part in outdoor activities such as abseiling, camping, potholing etc. It was hugely rewarding to see the children’s self- esteem and confidence grow as they spent time in the countryside and I have taken many positive lessons away from my time there.

I am now based at a medium sized practice in Taunton.

I have two children at the school, one in Year 1 and the other in Year 3.

I am passionate about giving every child the best opportunity they can have to help them to flourish and to grow into strong confident individuals. I would love to be involved in helping to make a difference and to support the school and the local community. I think the skills I have together with those of the governors already appointed can really help to develop all of the children and help make a great school even better.

  • Mr Sheon Sturland

    Community Governor

‘I believe all children deserve to receive an outstanding education in a school that is part of their local community. Beyond numeracy and literacy, children also need to learn about healthy lifestyles, building social relationships and social responsibility, critical thinking and developing their creative talents to ensure they have the tools to achieve their aspirations regardless of background. This learning needs to be in an environment where children feel safe and parents can trust it is safe. I hope that I can help make Sampford Peverell Primary School somewhere that can achieve all those goals, for the children, parents and the community.’

  • Mr Kevin Snow

    Staff Governor

I have been teaching since 2001 in a wide variety of schools both in the United Kingdom and abroad. I love teaching and it is the profession I wanted to be in from the age of 11 and will hopefully continue to be for many more years in the future.

I studied a 4 year Bachelor of Education degree in Bath and continued to work there in a large village primary for the following 3 years. I then decided to be a little adventurous and moved to Dubai in 2004 to help open a brand new school called Kings Dubai. Whilst there I met my wife who was also teaching in the school. We then moved Thailand and then the equally glamorous Yorkshire (where my wife Cara is from). After getting married we moved back to the Bath area where I had a wonderful time teaching in a small village primary, similar to Sampford, for 3 years. As we now had a small family of 3, we decided to move back to Devon where I grew up so that we could be close to my parents and all the benefits that brings to family life. We have now been here since 2014 and our small family of 3 has become a larger family of 5.

I chose to move to Sampford Peverell Primary School to strengthen my links with the village. I moved to the village in 2015 and I was of the opinion that if I were to put all of the effort a teacher has to put, into a school, it may as well benefit my own community. I joined the teaching staff in September 2016 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far and I look forward to all my children passing through this school to experience the wide and exciting curriculum which I can play a part in creating.

  • Mrs Linda Hinds

    Parent Governor

I grew up in Tiverton and still have family in the local area. I moved away in 1989 to go to university and then spent many years travelling, finally emigrated to Australia for 8 years. After having had 2 children we decided that we wanted to be closer to family and moved back to Devon in 2010. Both children have been to Sampford Peverell Primary School, one has now moved on to Uffculme School, the younger is in year 6.

I have been a maths teacher since 1999 and have worked in secondary schools and further education colleges in the UK and Australia. I am currently Curriculum Manager for A Levels in Maths and Science at Bridgwater & Taunton College. I am passionate about my subject and keen to see students love it too.

  • Mrs Amanda Lewry

    Foundation Governor

I moved into the village in August 2018. I am married to Rev Glyn, the Vicar of the team of churches to which the school is linked. I recently took the decision not to work after 18 years in education, having worked in different areas of school life. I am a licensed lay minister within the local churches. As a Foundation Governor I can support the school in continuing to look at our Christian Distinctiveness.
In my previous work I have supported children with SEND within a school, I have taken on the role as SEND governor and am looking to support the work and the training that is going on within our school for our SEND children.
I enjoy singing and am a member of a Church Choir and can play brass instruments but am currently taking a break from Brass Banding.
I have 2 grown up children, 2 primary school aged grandchildren and a Spaniel.
