SUMMER ARCHIVE

Homework now set Friday to Friday - due in Friday 14th June

Maths: Mathletics activities have been set.

Also, the more multiplication table recall they could do, the better - the old chanting it out way is still a pretty good way of doing it or there a a number of free websites or app available. There is also 'Multiverse' which you can access for free through the Mathletics website - but unfortunately not the app.

With our visit to Montacute House on Thursday 13th June, this week's homework will be to investigate Tudor housing. Maybe look at comparing the poorer households to then compare it to Montacute; build a model; find some photographs online; find some local Tudor buildings; do some observational drawings; find out some facts; or anything else you think of!

Homework now set Friday to Friday - due in Friday 7th June - after half term

When we return after half term we will be studying the Tudors. This will be a 3 week block which will culminate in a Tudor Banquet on Friday 21st of June 2:30pm to 3:30pm where parents/carers will be invited in to join us in a feast which will be accompanied by music and dancing. It would be great if as many parents as possible could join us on this afternoon - more details will follow (as well as you official invitation) when we return.
In the meantime, children could begin to research a particular area of interest. As we are still under the V.I.P theme, our class focus will be on Henry VIII as well as housing. In the second week back on Thursday 13th June, we will be visiting Montacute House near Yeovil - again, more details to follow after half term.

All through next week the children will be using their time in the afternoons to create their own 'product' linked to trade. This might be looking at how goods are transported, Fairtrade and what it means, more detailed about exactly where food comes from - anything.

They have chosen the way they would like to present their work and again, this is up to them. So for homework they need to continue their research about their chosen 'Trade Topic'. As with all the homework I am setting for theme, I want it to be relevant to what they are doing in class to make it meaningful - so please see that they are completing it and gaining knowledge from it; it really does influence their classwork.

Homework now set Friday to Friday - due in Friday 17th May

Maths: Year 5 children need to go onto Mathletics and look at areas which they scored less than 80% and redo them. We have now covered pretty much all of the maths curriculum so they can now look at completing areas which they are interested in completing. To see if they have completed their homework, I will chwck how many minutes they have been active in the week - 30 minutes is a good amount.

With SATs next week I don't expect any of the Year 6s to be working at home in the evenings - take the time to relax and unwind.

Children should be aware of what areas they need to work on in their arithmetic too.

We will be using the knowledge gained from last week on where products come from to create a class map - inspired from some of the amazing homework brought in.

For homework this week I would like them to research just Fair Trade products. Get them to look out for the Fair Trade symbol and discover which products are fair trade. They could investigate where the products come from; why they are fair trade; which farmers produced it; or any other ideas about Fair Trade.

Again, they can present their ideas however they like. It could be a list, a collection of food packets, a map showing places or origin or a poster, PowerPoint...anything.

Homework now set Friday to Friday - due in Friday 10th May

Maths: Mathlestics has been set for Year 5 and Year 6 children.

If all of those are complete, they could look at areas where they have score less than 80% and attempt them again - looking and fractions, decimals and percentages would be especially helpful. Children should be aware of what areas they need to work on in their arithmetic too.

The children will be writing up their notes about Newton in a biography this week but then the following week we will be switching our focus away from science and onto geography - in particular, Fair Trade.

For homework I would like them to research where our food comes from (not just Fair Trade but all foods) and present their ideas however the like. It could be a list, a collection of food packets, a map showing places or origin or a poster, PowerPoint...anything. In class the following week we will collect all of this information to look at where food is sourced and how it get to our plate. Then we will look at what Fair Trade means during the week.

Homework now set Friday to Friday - due in Friday 3rd May

Maths: Mathlestics has been set for Year 5s. Year 6 children need to choose areas which they feel that they need to revise. Look at any 'red bars' and see if you can turn them to gold!

If all of those are complete, they could look at areas where they have score less than 80% and attempt them again - looking and fractions, decimals and percentages would be especially helpful. Children should be aware of what areas they need to work on in their arithmetic too.

This term we are continuing to look at 'V.I.Ps' so I would like the children to take notes on the life of Sir Isaac Newton and his ideas on gravity. They could also try to answer any burning questions they have about gravity (as well as some of the other forces we have already mentioned). Also, we will be conducting experiments next week on air and water resistance so they could plan their own experiment/question to investigate.
