Welcome to First Steps at Sampford Peverell

Welcome! First Steps is our pre-school at Sampford, where we aim to give children a confidence and love for learning, along with new skills and experiences, which can enrich them ready for their school life. We have a lovely indoor and outdoor space just for First Steps, but we also get to use the Reception classroom in the afternoons when the whole EYFS unit goes into continuous provision together. All of our learning spaces - indoor and outdoor - encourage independence, heuristic play and imaginative places to create all sorts of learning opportunities.

The group is taught by Mr Leaman and the team and overseen by the EYFS leader, Miss Dillon; we have space for up to 16 children in any session. First Steps caters for children from the term after their 2nd birthday right up until they start school with us in Reception, so we have a lovely mixture of 2, 3 and 4-year-olds! Miss Dillon and Mr Leaman plan for the learning together so that all children progress through a variety of exciting and child-led learning opportunities. We offer a safe, nurturing environment in which each individual child is recognised, valued and supported to achieve their potential through meaningful play experiences. We have a mixture of group sessions, free play and adult guided, offering children the chance to develop the skills they need in life – to explore, to play, to learn, to think, to express themselves and to learn to make friends!

Our hourly rate for 2 year olds is £4.50 and the hourly rate for 3 and 4 year olds is £4.20 and our sessions are term time Monday to Friday.
Our session times are:
- Morning - 9:00-12:00
- Afternoon - 12:00-15:00 (lunchtime is included in this session)
- Wraparound care session - 15:00-15:30
- All day - 9:00-15:00 or 15:30
Children attending the afternoon sessions have the option of bringing a packed lunch or having a school dinner, prepared in the school kitchen at a cost of £2.30 per meal.
